Loaded Truck Ploughs Across Field and into School Hall
On the weekend of 12 December when fortunately no children were at the school, it is understood that a hand brake failed on an unmanned plumber’s truck and trailer allowing it to cross a busy intersection, through a council verge and fence, down a bank and across the school field only stopping on impact with the school hall.
CoveKinloch New Zealand Ltd, as part of our Emergency Procurement Contractor Role with the Ministry of Education, Deirdre McShane, Building Surveyor attended the incident at Kahurangi School, Wellington and put in place the make safe measures to secure the site and structural integrity of the school hall.
Damage included two destroyed timber piles and a bearer which the floor joist sit on.
The make safe measures included the installation of temporary propping before the truck could be removed to avoid sagging of the floor and façade cracking.
